Free Screening! But seats no longer available.

Vampires are the ruling class in this alternate universe horror/fantasy/action flick directed by Glenn (THE IRREFUTABLE TRUTH ABOUT DEMONS) Standring. In the world of PERFECT CREATURE, disease-cursed humans make an uneasy alliance with the upper class bloodsuckers. But a series of murders soon upsets the balance between the two races. Described as "UNDERWORLD meets CHILDREN OF MEN," PERFECT CREATURE stars Dougray (DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES) Scott, Leo (STONED) Gregory and Saffron (DEEP BLUE SEA) Burrows.

Reviewing PERFECT CREATURE, Razor Reel said, "This finally is a vampire movie that's got brains, with a nice approach to the mythical creature," while Dread Central praised: "Writer/director Glenn Standring does know how to film the action in a spectacular way, combining some top notch CGI with some great camerawork." Upcoming Horror Movies noted, "PERFECT CREATURE somehow manages to reshape the tired vampires' subgenre into something new."

A Seventh Art Release

Trailer:

Tony (George Gallagher) and Sofia (Kether Donohue) are two troubled teenage siblings from the Bronx. Out of options, their mother brings them over the GW Bridge to a rehab in Jersey. What is meant to be a 30 day stay turns into a traumatic 2 1/2 years in which Tony and Sofia experience abuse, brainwashing and false imprisonment. The director of the program, Dr. Hiller (Albert Insinnia), leads Tony and Sofia to believe this is the only institution that will keep them sober and if they leave they will die. Instead, the siblings enter into a psychological and physical struggle for their lives!

OVER THE GW is a poignant story based on writer/director Nick Gaglia's experience in a cult-like rehab. The film exposes the ongoing threat of corrupt rehabilitation centers that prey upon vulnerable teens and their parents.

A 7th Art release.

Trailer:

"Critic's Choice!"
- Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader

"thoroughly engaging . . .offers a uniquely time-layered vision of the war."
- Ronnie Scheib, Variety

"For 76 flickering mini-cam minutes, "Nice Bombs" retains an honest, passionate, and surprisingly droll tone. . . One does not have to look far for ironies in times of war, and Mr. Alshaibi's cousin and camera capture many. . . offers many different Iraqi and American points of view and portrays a time and place of nightmarish complexity."
- Bruce Bennett, NEW YORK SUN

Both Iraqi and American, Usama Alshaibi documents the lives, voices,
and humor of his family as it reunites in Baghdad.

In NICE BOMBS, filmmaker Usama Alshaibi returns to Baghdad to reunite with his family after nearly 24 years. This documentary navigates through his unique relationship to an Iraq that is much different than the country of his childhood.

Usama captures the conflicting reactions to the conditions of life in Baghdad. Through a wide range of opinions and experiences he provides a broad panorama of voices long neglected under Saddam's regime.

His cousin Tareef enters the room upon hearing an explosion. "It's a bomb. A Nice Bomb," he explains. The phrase is indicative of his family's nonchalance about their situation. As one young boy put it, "We're Iraqis. It's normal."

With humor and resilience, NICE BOMBS explores Usama's dual role as both Iraqi and American.

"The raving madness of an inmate and the frustration of life behind bars emerge crisply and often frighteningly . . . The savage rebellion of the ladies in Cell C (or was it B!) who wreck the dormitory in a display of frenzy after an inmate commits suicide when the parole board turns her down, is a harrowing experience, fully descriptive of the old adage that 'hell hath no fury like a woman scorned'. . ."

Tues July 17 7pm - buy tix

This is a Tuesdays@7 program. Every Tuesday at 7pm features special guests presenting their film, and is followed by a beer and pizza reception for ticket holders.

Monthly program of Arab or South-Asian cinema,
presented on the third Tuesday of the month,
co-presented by Alwan and Third I

Set during the Arab-Israeli war of 1967, this epic drama is both the personal story of a middle-class Bahraini family and an account of the hopes and faith the Arab world had in Gamal Abdel Nasser as its leader. Intimately told, it skillfully interweaves the personal and the general to reveal a society struggling against gender inequality and female sacrifice, as women attempt to enjoy freedom of choice. This is the third feature film from Bahrain, and all have been directed by Bassam Al-Thawadi, who shows flexibility in both style and subject, always demonstrating a deep sense of reality and romanticism. The social concerns here are clear and the storytelling simple, yet both are challenging and help the film explore areas of Arab collective memory more powerfully than any other film has done in a long time.

Bahrain¹s first 35mm feature film was shot by Indian cinematographer S. Shamdat, and developed and printed at Prasad Labs, Chennai!

* International Critics' Award, Buenos Aires IFF *

THE SUGAR CURTAIN is a documentary which reflects on what has been the Cuban Revolution through the eyes of those that were born and bred within it. It is an intimate portrait of a generation that began their studies in primary school when the Cuban regime was in its best economic moment (in the mid 70s), and still maintained the energy of the early days.

The film recounts this generation's childhood and explores what happened later, when the socialist regimes of Eastern Europe ceased to exist. It was in that moment that Cuba was left without allies, money or petroleum and the ideals of this generation were dismantled under the paralysis of the system.

With clear and sensitive language, the film is a deep-rooted collective autobiography, from the intimacy of everyday life of this generation of Cubans.

18 AND OVER ONLY

"PORNOLOGY NEW YORK reinvents a time when anybody could. . . indulge in their dirtiest, wildest fantasies and fetishes."
- Stephanie Sellars, New York Press

A paean to the sexual underground of New York, circa 1970-85, this engrossing documentary brings together four of its most colorful protagonists for a look back in time, an assessment of where we are today. . . and one very wild farewell party. Our guide to the gritty action is Michele Capozzi, urban explorer and self-titled pornologist, who brings together Neville Chambers, founder of the infamous porn-producing Fuck Factory; Lenny Waller, long-time front-man of the meat-packing district's now-defunct Hellfire Club and renowned pornstar/mistress/shaman, Porsche Lynn.
